At
Tidewater Bariatrics, we will develop an individualized program that
meets your weight loss needs. Your first visit will
be with our clinic nurse who will do your initial laboratory work and EKG, body composition analysis, and
complete your health history. Your second visit will be with Dr.
Gaglione who will review your history, EKG and laboratory results, perform a physical, and develop your weight loss program. All patients must come to the
clinic weekly for blood pressure monitoring and a weigh in. All patients will be seen weekly to monthly by Dr. Gaglione to review their goals and progress.
After your initial nurse and physician consultation, you and Dr. Gaglione
will decide which program is best suited to optimize your success.
Tidewater Bariatrics
is supported by Health Management Resources
™ (HMR®).
HMR® has led the way in weight management for more than 20 years and is the program used
by many academic university programs including the University of Kentucky
Medical Center, University of Kansas, University of California at Irvine, West Virginia University, and University of Nevada. The meal replacements
are delicious, low in simple carbohydrates and fat, and high in
protein.
Tidewater Bariatrics offers the following weight loss programs:
Decision Free™ Diet
This is our most intense program. It requires weekly physician supervision
and attendance at weekly nutritional classes. This diet is designed for
patients who need to lose 30-60 pounds or more. It promotes rapid weight
loss under medical supervision. During the Weight Loss Phase, patients will only use nutritionally complete
HMR® Shakes and Entrees, instead of grocery store foods. After the Weight Loss Phase, patients will enter
the Transition Phase which involves the use of meal replacements and the
reintroduction of other select foods (similar to the Healthy Solutions® program below). In the Transition Phase, close behavioral supervision and
support via attendance at nutrition classes is imperative. The final phase,
Maintenance, starts after completion of the Transition Phase. Patients
will learn additional strategies to maintain their weight in the “real
world.” Patients using this diet will have laboratory tests done at
regular intervals. The use of prescription medication and supplements will
be determined on an individual basis by Dr. Gaglione.
Healthy Solutions®
This program is designed for patients who wish to have the option of using
meal replacements as well as fruits and vegetables. Patients will be seen weekly. Attendance at the nutrition classes is required. Use of prescription medication and supplements will be determined on an individual basis by Dr. Gaglione.
HMR at Home®
This program is designed for patients who don't
have the flexibility in their schedules to attend weekly educational classes
or make weekly medical visits. It is designed for patients who wish to have
the option of using meal replacements as well as fruits and vegetables. Meal
replacement orders can be made over the telephone and shipped directly to the
patient, or by filling out the HMR
at Home® Order Form.
Smart Choices
This program is designed for patients who wish to buy their own groceries
using the Tidewater Bariatrics Food Guide. Patients will be seen weekly, with appointments alternating between Dr. Gaglione and the clinic nurse. Use
of prescription medication and supplements will be determined on an individual
basis by Dr. Gaglione.
Pharmaceutical Treatment
Dr. Gaglione will prescribe medication as required for appetite suppression
and as necessary to treat your obesity. As with any medical therapy, this
care needs to be individualized and designed specifically for you.
Supplements
As with the use of medication above, the use of nutritional supplements, vitamins and minerals will be determined on an individual
basis.
